CHINESE DRAGON
The Centre’s Chinese Dragon is an exciting and colourful performance that is a highlight of many cultural celebrations and community events. The Dragon is traditionally performed during Chinese New Year to bring good luck, strength, and prosperity.
Our Chinese Dragon performances are carried out by trained members of the Centre who practise coordinated movements alongside our percussion team. The Dragon weaves, twists, and rises in dynamic patterns that symbolise power and unity, creating a vibrant visual spectacle for audiences of all ages.
The Chinese Dragon regularly performs at the Wellington Chinese New Year Festival and is also available for other Chinese New Year celebrations and public events throughout the year.

Our Lions are performed by Centre members of all ages who are trained in traditional lion dance techniques, including expressive movements that bring the Lion’s character to life alongside our percussion team.
The Chinese Lions perform annually at the Wellington Chinese New Year Festival and are also invited to appear at other events and celebrations throughout the year.

CHINESE DANCING
The Centre has Chinese dancing for girls aged from 5 to 13 years in the summer months. Each year our dance troupes spend a lot of time preparing to perform on stage at the Chinese New Year Festival in Wellington. They also perform at other Chinese New Year and public events through the summer months. For photos of our dance troupes see the gallery.
Our troupes dance to traditional Chinese folk songs taught to them by our teenage members who have performed the dances themselves for WCSCC in earlier years. In recent years we have had three dance troupes aged 5-7 years, 8-10 years and 11-13 years.
Our groups are available to perform from January to May. If you are interested in a performance for your function or event please contact wcsccchinesedancea@gmail.com.

CHINESE PERCUSSION
Chinese Percussion is an essential part of many traditional Chinese performances and celebrations. The Centre’s Chinese Percussion group provides powerful rhythmic accompaniment for Chinese Dragon and Lion performances.
Our percussion performers use traditional Chinese instruments such as drums, cymbals, and gongs to create strong, dynamic rhythms that enhance the atmosphere of festivals and events.
Chinese Percussion is regularly featured at the Wellington Chinese New Year Festival and at other cultural and public events throughout the year.
