Zach Young off to the States

Nineteen-year-old Centre basketballer Zach Young headed to the United States early in September for a Post Graduate programme at Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas.

Zach has been involved in the Centre pretty much all his life, starting out as a four-year-old playing Biniball.  He progressed through the ranks playing Tini, Mini, Intermediate, College, and most recently in the Centre Men’s team.

He has made huge strides in his basketball career, playing Junior A and Senior A each year during his time at Wellington College, representing Wellington (Under 15s, Under 17s, and Under 19s) and New Zealand in the Under17s, Under 18s, Under19s and even the Junior Tall Blacks.

He’ll be away for seven months until March 2014 and as part of his training, he’ll eat sleep and breathe basketball with five hours balling and two hours of study a day, 5½ days a week.

Zach’s goal is to obtain a basketball scholarship to study and play in the States. With scouts visiting the Academy to size up talents like Zach, we wish him all the best in achieving his goal.

Zach is very proud to have grown up at the Centre, and was especially happy to help out at the recent Goodwill Games and to see all the budding players who are starting where he once was.  Zach’s story shows that with a bit of skill, hard work and determination anyone can achieve whatever they want to.

Hard Work Will Beat Talent If Talent Doesn’t Work Hard
