Yau Yih Yun celebrated its 21st birthday

Yau Yih Yun celebrated its 21st birthday in April 2008

On Saturday 19 April 2008 Yau Yih Yun celebrated 21 years in the WCSCC building.  There were over 100 people present to hear how the pre-school was first established, and developments that had since occured.  Some of the previous presidents were in attendance, and we even had some foundation students there.
Photographs of the classes over the years were available for viewing, where many parents and past students alike recalled other children and the activities they did both in class and on field trips.  Mandy Chen, the teacher for the last 10 years was keeping the learning very much alive.
The attendees were privvy to a wonderful performance by the current students aged from 1-5 years old with the good ol' favourites that the wee ones just love!  Cake cutting was done by the youngest and oldest past student in attendance, along with a stunning lunch!
It was fantastic to see the children recognise and  remember how important the Chinese language and culture is in the New Zealand society.  Other activities and classes have grown out from the Yau Yih Yun such as Cantonese class which is available for 5-12 year old children.  This is also taught by Mandy Chen.
A wonderful group photo was taken to remember the day!  We look forward to another milestone to celebrate in 2017? (30 years on)!

Where: Wellington Chinese Sports and Cultural Centre, Mount Albert Road, Newtown, Wellington
When: Saturday, 19 April 2008, from 10am to 1.30 pm
