WCSCC celebrates 35th anniversary
Saturday 19 May 2012 marked the celebrations for the 35th anniversary for WCSCC.
It was a great gathering of young and old where we showcased all the various activities that make up the Wellington Chinese Sports and Cultural Centre.
From the young toddlers strutting their stuff with their pom poms through to the Line dancers and a fabulous Tai Chi Fan display. The Chinese Dancing girls all showed their style and grace and beauty with their dancing, along with the wonderful lion pride combining for the first time with the Dragon - which was truly impressive. The Cantonese class recited a number of poems and one of the girls sang a lovely song in Cantonese.
The Centre has such a varied group of activities available now, and it was wonderful to see them all in action. Of course we had a fashion parade of the Centre “styling-styley” basketball tops “through the ages” along with a great speech from our 2012 Mens Under 18 MVP, Zachary Young. He talked about all his amazing journeys through basketball and where its taken him so far - and then some!
The meal was very tasty, plentiful and truly enjoyed by all. Of course there’s no party without a birthday cake, and two of our presidents shared the honours - Graham Young and Malcolm Young. The band played after dinner and the ball room dancers all had a wonderful time too. And we have to mention how well the band entertained the kiddies during dinner, the kids loved it!
We still have the very cool anniversary t-shirts - they will be available again early next year, so look out for them.
Thanks to everyone for coming, joining and enjoying the day - its because of you all that the Centre is here, and continues to thrive and be the club that you all enjoy!
