TEACHING FORMAT:
- Under guidance of the teacher
- Introductory session for all children.
- Includes greetings, routine songs, rhymes, language to settle children, music, etc.
- Tuition/story.
- Activity related to topic.
MORNING TEA:
- Children to bring their own food and drink.
- Parent/caregiver to give out morning tea to children using routine Cantonese phrases.
- Chinese tea is available for parents/caregivers.
- Children’s birthdays are celebrated.
CRAFT TIME/ACTIVITY:
- Under guidance of parents/caregivers and/or teacher
- Parent assisted activities to reinforce topic of the day and to practice the language.
- Fluent and bilingual people will circulate to talk to children.
- Parents and children tidy up.
FINISH:
- Familiar songs, ‘Fong Hok Goh’ (goodbye song).
- Where possible, reinforcement by teacher of craft/activity of the session.
GUIDELINES/EXPECTATIONS:
- Sessions to begin at 9:45am (Wednesdays) and 10:00am (Saturdays) sharp
- Parents to sign in on arrival (for civil defence purposes).
- Song sheets are available to take home and learned with the children.
- Cantonese is to be the language spoken where possible.
- Parents/caregivers are to be actively involved in the sessions. Duty rosters will be drawn up (refer to ‘Parent Duty Responsibilities’).
- A parent/caregiver must accompany and be responsible for their child or children throughout the whole session.
