WCSCC Ballroom Dancing

Hi folks, this year we again have an enthusiastic group of young dancers.  New comers and old hands are very welcome to participate at any time for ballroom, latin and new vogue. Classes are more beneficial if you sign up  to do a 6 week block.

  • - Beginners classes run from 7-8 pm on  Sunday evenings.
  • - Intermediate group runs from 8-9 pm.  The group also practices Tuesday evenings from 8pm.
  • - Advanced group runs from 9 pm.

It is great to see that the dancing skills of our beginners have improved so much. Special thanks to our dance teachers Jackie Drakeford and Mary Staples.

The cost is minimal at $12 per person per lesson.  Please contact Christine Lowe.

Remember dancing is an activity which people of all ages can enjoy.

The WCSCC dance group is now well and truly underway for 2016, and has just started its second term. The group has grown in numbers this year, with the beginners class of 7 couples, the intermediate class of 6 couples and the advanced class of 3 couples. Under the fabulous and patient tuition of Jackie Drakeford, with assistance from Mary Staples and Rosemary Cha, we have been taken through ballroom in the first term – waltz, foxtrot and quick- step, and been taught the Bluebird waltz sequence dance. This term, we are learning the Charmaine sequence dance in the beginners class and the Tracy Leigh Waltz sequence dance in the intermediate class. We will also be progressing with our latin ballroom – rumba, cha cha and samba.  Classes are currently full but if you are interested please contact Christine Lowe to go on our wait list!

Line Dancing

Line Dancing restarted at the Centre on January 19th this year.  All members were keen to come back and we have full attendance.  Our classes have become a great place for regular exercise and a place for the retired to socialise as well.  If you are interested in joining then just come along to a session at 10 am on Tuesday or Saturday mornings at the WCSCC.  You can also contact Stuart Chung on 380-8290, or email him for more information.

Wendy Chan and Ruby Chan have volunteered to arrange functions for members to meet for “get togethers” every now and then so our members have an opportunity to socialise outside of the line dance classes.  Visitors have remarked on the camaraderie of the line dance class.

We continue to get new members and it’s great to see older people wanting to join in and make the effort to do some easy exercise.  Avelyne is a very patient and able teacher and continues to welcome all who join the classes. She adapts her classes to suit the younger and the older members.  It is good to know that there is this great facility at the WCSCC for members to enjoy.

Tai Chi Fan Dance

Line dancing now finishes at 12 noon sharp.  So Tai Chi Fan classes are now held on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting at 12 noon.  This has turned out to be very convenient as now more people can come in to join the class at a set time.

The moves  are set and if one attends regularly you will soon learn how to do it.  Stuart Chung and Amanda Fung are very competent and teach the movements to all members who are keen to learn the dance.  We welcome anyone who is interested to come and try a session.

Contact Stuart on 380-8290, or email him.
